Susan Weinert is a German Jazz guitarist and composer. Weinert took lessons with David Liebman,Richie Beirach,John Abercrombie and Mike Stern. Her influence ranges from guitarists like Pat Metheny, Scott Henderson and Allan Holdsworth to traditional jazz musicians like Charlie Parker, Miles Davis,Wes Montgomery and Sonny Rollins. Susan Weinert has been invited in the band Steps Ahead of Mike Mainieri and has taken part band in projects by Chick Corea, Jimmy Earl and Michael Ruff.In 1985 she founded with her husband Martin Weinert (bass)and the drummer Hardy Fischötter the Susan Weinert Band.In the beginning the SWB played mostly compositions by other musicians, but in 1990 Susan Weinert began to write her own compositions. With the release of their first CD Mysterious Stories in 1992,the band played only Weinert compositions. The first CD is strongly influenced by the use of guitar synthesizer and the famous WDR radio choose Mysterious Stories as Jazz production of the year. On the second CD Crunch Time from 1994 the trio is joined by keyboarder Oliver Heuss Overall, and the overal sound is harder and rockier. In contrast, the sound of the third release The Bottom Line (1996)is calmer and warmer, mainly due to the piano playing of Rachel Z. In 2004 Susan Weinert and her husband founded their own record label Tough Tone Records and released the mini-CD Coming out and the CD Running Out Of Time,on which the trio is joined by singer Francesco Cottone.
