Synopsis:

At dawn, on February 18, 1860, samurai of Mito domain Seki Tetsunosuke (Takao Osawa leaves his wife Fusa (Kyoko Hasegawa) and son - Seiichiro Seki (Seishiro Kato) behind to fulfill a deadly mission. In January, Seki Tetsunosuke concluded a pact to execute community leaders of the Mito domain and the highest government official of the shogunate Ii Naosuke (Masato Ibu).

The attack on Ii Naosuke is set for March 3rd. Including Seki Tetsunosuke, there are 17 samurai from Mito Domain who embark on their mission and a samurai from Satsuma domain, Jizaemon Arimura (Minosuke Bando). Their leader Magojiro Kaneko (Akira Emoto) forms their plan and instructs Seki Tetsunosuke to lead the others to carry out the plan.

On the day of the attack, Tetsunosuke and his party gather at Shinagawa Atagoyama and head for the Sakuradamon gate of Edo Castle for their attack. The battle begins .

Japan, 1860, het land bruist van een antibuitenlands en een antishogunaat gevoel vanwege het tekenen van een nieuw Japans-Amerikaans vriendschapsverdrag en de opvolging van Tokugawa Yoshitomi als de 14de shogun in 1858. De regent van het Tokugawa Shogunaat, Ii Naosuke, handelt zeer eigenzinnig en maakt daardoor veel vijanden. Zeventien jonge meesterloze samoerai uit Mito onder leiding van Seki Tetsunosuke besluiten daarom dat hij geëxecuteerd moet worden. Ze plannen een aanslag.
