One of the most fascinating Italian films of World War II, "S.O.S. Submarine" is a re-creation of a submarine disaster enacted by non-professionals and military personnel. Not a war movie, the film highlights the humanity of men caught in a bad situation and their attempt to pull together for the common good. During a training exercise, the submarine A-103 collides with a surface vessel that unexpectedly crosses its path. The submarine drops to the ocean floor immobilized. Reserve air supply will last only 30 hours. A submarine from their division arrives at the scene and a series of daring rescue attempts are made. Some crew members are sent up to the surface one by one by means of a capsule. The remaining men make every attempt to get survive, but time is running out quickly.
