In de jaren '80 werd het uit het Britse Leeds afkomstige Scritti Politti een zeer populaire band die ook in Nederland een aantal grote hits scoorde. Hun mix van pop, soul, funk en alternative bleek bij een groot publiek aan de slaan.
De singles Wood Beez (Pray Like Aretha Franklin) Absolute en The Word Girl bleken dikke hits. Ook het vervolgalbum Provision bracht met Oh Patti (Don't Feel Sorry For The Loverboy) en Boom! There She Was hits voort.
