Episode 1 - Ruby Tate's (renamed Love's Fish Restaurant during filming), Brighton, EnglandBrighton oyster joint Ruby Tates - the first restaurant to be revamped in the new series - is sobbing cash. The staff are lazy, the food is inedible and its owner, Allan Love, is in debt and denial. It's the usual set-up, but this time Gordon Ramsay warms to this feckless restaurateur and becomes increasingly desperate to rescue his business. Of course they fight. There's even a scorching walkout moment prompted by a conversation about the restaurant's artwork, particularly a piece that incorporates a real pair of "crusty knickers". Gordon thinks it should come down but, hilariously, Allan becomes enraged at and fixated on his use of the term "crusty knickers". Someone must have snipped a hole in Gordon's venom sack because he only sparingly heaps obstructive, expletive-pumped scorn on this victim. But Allan is a charming, ex-actor luvvie, who appeals to his mentor's soft, obsequious side. So not only does Gordon jazz up the food, he becomes Allan's willing therapist. It's very nearly sweet.Original name:
