-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This has previously been available on the African Shark Records release 'Please...
Take Me With U', however this is an excellent "remastered" release of the same
source recording. The recording appears to have been boosted and the show has
benefited greatly from it. The muted feel of the African Shark release has gone,
and the show has far more depth and clarity than before. It still suffers from
the same small glitches (most noticeable at the end of 'Irresistible Bitch')
however these are minor. The concert itself is a stunning Purple Rain concert
with various unusual and unique moments. Not only does the show open with '17
Days', it also closes with an extended 20 minute jam on 'America' which is very
similar to the released 12" version. The remainder of the show is rather
straightforward, however Prince's performance is noticeably livelier and more
enthusiastic than normal - and the show is all the better for it. I do question
the date of this recording though, as it is stated as being from the 4th March 1985
show. Prince says quite clearly during the piano segment that he wants to "get
sleazy this afternoon" - which would make this an afternoon performance. The only
matinee shows in San Francisco were (apparently) held on the 3rd & 5th March.
Other than the query over the date of the show I have no problems with this release
- an excellent reworking of an excellent recording.
