Post Description

With 243 tracks and over 11 hours of music, DJANGOLOGY is the most comprehensive collection of Django Reinhardt's recordings available. This set begins with 1937 sessions "Le Quintette Du Hot Club De France" featuring violinist Stephan Grappelli and follows with most of the sessions he made for the small Swing label including sides he cut with Coleman Hawkins, Benny Carter, Bill Coleman and Dickie Wells. Also included are many rare duets and trios. With the 10 individual jewel-boxed discs comes a 68-page French/English book. This massive ten-CD set of Django Reinhardt's recordings covers some of the same ground as the earlier 20-LP Djangology EMI series, duplicating the music on Vols. 2-15 along with three tracks from the first LP and ten from Vol. 16. However, there are 34 additional selections that were formerly overlooked (on some of those songs Reinhardt only plays a minor role). This essential box contains 243 performances taken from a 12-year period, tracing Reinhardt's career from his performances with the Quintet of the Hot Club of France (which co-starred violinist Stephane Grappelli) through the war years (with the guitarist heard in a wide variety of settings) and the formation of his postwar quintet with clarinetist Hubert Rostaing before concluding with a reunion with Grappelli. Recommended to all serious Django Reinhardt collectors.
