Post Description

Monday night, VH1 debuted its latest gem, Single Ladies. Executive produced by Queen Latifah, the romantic comedy (that label is debatable) is the network's first scripted television series. And just as expected, the Twitter critics emerged just in time for the two-hour premier. Twitter critics aside, I would say VH1 has itself a decent program.

The show isn't perfect, but it has its pros. Here are five reasons you should keep watching, Single Ladies.

1) The cast is so freaking pretty. Seriously, these woman (and men) are FLAWLESS! Stacey Dash, Lisa Raye, Lauren London, Common.Sexy is all over this show. If nothing else, the eye candy makes it all worth it.

2) Keisha spits Ronnie-like hoe quotes all throughout the show. Lisa Raye is undoubted best known for her role as the sympathetic stripper, Diamond, in The Player's Club, and through the movie her nemesis, Ronnie, spouts out infamous hoe quotes like, "Make the money. Don't let it make you!" This time Lisa Raye's character, Keisha, gets to drop the memorable hoe lines. Her stand out from the debut episode: "Children brag. Call me when you want to know what women do!"

3) The conversations remind me of ones my friends and I have. In our free time my girls and I do indulge in love, sex and relationship talk like the 5 and 15 minute theories and the love song versus sex song. It's pretty cool watching these same conversations take place onscreen. And while the acting isn't always Academy Award winning, the writing is pretty real and honest. It reflects the conversations I've heard in real life.

4) The characters are honest. You may not always agree with their decisions or actions, but I bet they remind you of someone in your life. Maybe you know you know a Val-the independent, career woman who's willing to sacrifice for love, or Malcolm-the slick player who will say one thing but have the woman in his life hoping and believing something completely different. You may not always like them, but I bet you'll recognize a friend.or two.

5) It's better than the coonery that is reality television. If we want to see more scripted program, we have to support what's out there. Let's give Single Ladies the opportunity to grow, develop and become great. If we don't, who will?
